BYRNIHAT : Residents of Lower Balian village in the Byrnihat industrial belt have issued a strong warning of mass action, stating that they will drive out all factories operating illegally in the area, following their protest and sealing of Shyam Century Ferrous Limited.
Expressing deep anger and frustration, the villagers said that unchecked industrial activity has turned their lives into a daily struggle for survival. They alleged that several factories in the Byrnihat area are operating without proper permissions, while continuously releasing toxic air pollutants, forcing residents to live under a blanket of thick, dark fumes.
“We cannot even step outside to breathe, forget drying clothes,” the residents said, adding that coal dust and polluted air have covered homes, farmlands, vegetation, and burial grounds, making normal life impossible.
The protesters warned that if authorities fail to take immediate action, they will remove all illegal factories one by one, regardless of ownership or influence. They stressed that the situation has crossed all limits and has become a serious public health emergency.
The residents further accused regulatory authorities of ignoring repeated complaints, allowing industries to continue operations at the cost of public health and environmental safety.
The growing unrest in Byrnihat signals a potential escalation of protests unless strict enforcement, inspections, and accountability are ensured by the concerned departments.
