SHILLONG, FEB 26: United Democratic Party (UDP) chief and Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh has dismissed speculation of differences within the party, asserting that he remains focused on constructive discussions aimed at the welfare of the people of the state.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Lyngdoh said there was no misunderstanding from his side and described himself as a “very positive person” who believes in open dialogue. He maintained that whatever is discussed inside the Assembly contributes to the larger interest of the state and should not be viewed through a negative lens.
Responding to queries about perceived differences with party colleague and West Shillong MLA Paul Lyngdoh, he questioned the basis of such assumptions and reiterated that he harboured no negative feelings. He emphasized that he does not look at individuals with a negative mindset and had already clarified his stand on the matter.
Lyngdoh also underlined the importance of maintaining decorum and constructive engagement within the Assembly. He stated that issues raised by members on the floor of the House are taken note of and acted upon at the appropriate time, adding that the Assembly is the proper platform for leaders to deliberate on public matters. Referring to public places such as Motphran, Police Bazaar, Iew Laitumkhrah and Iew Laban, he remarked that leaders should utilize the House for discussions rather than turning to other platforms.
Stressing the responsibilities of elected representatives, Lyngdoh said leaders must behave as leaders and approach debates with a constructive mindset, noting that most MLAs offer positive suggestions in the interest of governance and public welfare.
