SHILLONG : In a swift and life-saving operation, personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) rescued a 10-year-old girl who suffered an electric shock at a construction site in South Garo Hills district on April 7.
The incident occurred around 11:30 am near the Rongra River when the girl, identified as Nikhami N Marak from Rongra Bolgiske village, accidentally came into contact with a live electric pole.
Acting promptly on a distress call, BSF troops from BOP Rongra rushed to the spot and took immediate action to prevent further danger. The personnel quickly alerted the Electricity Department, ensuring that the power supply was disconnected without delay.
The injured girl was then evacuated to Rongra Primary Health Centre for initial medical treatment. After receiving first aid, she was referred for further care and shifted to Baghmara Government Hospital in a BSF ambulance, accompanied by a nursing assistant and her family members.
Officials stated that the timely intervention by BSF personnel helped avert a potentially life-threatening situation and ensured that the child received urgent medical attention.
Reaffirming its humanitarian role, the BSF said it remains committed to assisting local communities and responding promptly during emergencies across Meghalaya.
