SHILLONG : The Meghalaya government on Wednesday stated that political parties raised no major objections to the findings of the Expert Committee on the state’s reservation policy during an all-party meeting held in Shillong.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, where the main findings of the committee report were presented to representatives of various political parties.
Briefing the media, Commissioner & Secretary Cyril VD Diengdoh said the report had already been tabled in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on February 18, 2026, and copies were shared with all MLAs.
He informed that the report is extensive, comprising 21 volumes and nearly 4,000 pages, and the government has now initiated consultations with political parties as promised earlier by the Chief Minister.
According to Diengdoh, while it would not be appropriate to speak on behalf of individual parties, most of them did not express any major disagreement with the findings presented during the meeting.
He added that the political parties appreciated the government’s initiative to involve them in the consultation process and said copies of the report would be provided to all parties for further review.
The official also mentioned that if required, additional consultations may be held after parties study the report in detail.
All political parties attended the meeting except the Voice of the People Party (VPP), which had informed in writing that it would not be able to attend.
Diengdoh said that any clarification regarding the absence of VPP should be sought directly from the party.
He further noted that the presentation focused on key aspects, including legal and constitutional issues related to the reservation policy.
The government indicated that while no further meetings are planned at the moment, political parties may submit additional suggestions after reviewing the full report.
