Nongpoh : Hundreds of young men and women from across Ri-Bhoi district participated in the ‘Run for SIR’, a 5-kilometre awareness marathon organised to promote public awareness about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll and the importance of exercising the right to vote.
The event was organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri-Bhoi District, through its Election Branch, in collaboration with the Office of the District Sports Officer, Ri-Bhoi.
The marathon commenced from Saiden Indoor Stadium and concluded at NSCA Indoor Stadium, Umlyngkdait. District officials also joined the participants in the run as a gesture of encouragement and support.
The event was flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner Balakyntiew Ranee in the presence of Assistant Commissioner and Umsning BDO Andrew L. Myrthong, Assistant Commissioner and Mawhati BDO G. Mylliem, Assistant Commissioner Akash Marak, District Sports Officer Bobby L. Nongbet, and other government officials.
In the men’s category, Lapynkhraw Thabah secured first place, followed by Kobarlin Doloi in second and Wincent Dia in third.
In the women’s category, Jeny Ramde emerged as the winner, while Dakati Kyndait finished second and Julina Bongrung claimed third place.
The winners were awarded cash prizes, with the first-place finishers receiving Rs 6,000, second-place winners Rs 4,000, and third-place winners Rs 2,000.
The programme aimed to encourage greater public participation in the electoral process while spreading awareness about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, ensuring that eligible citizens are able to exercise their democratic right to vote.
