SHILLONG : Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School has created history by topping the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination 2026 for the first time. The results were declared by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) on Tuesday.
Wangaal Lama of Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School secured the first position by scoring an impressive 585 marks, bringing pride to the institution.
The second position was secured by Vishal Kumar of Embee Rosebud Higher Secondary School, Tura with 576 marks. The third position was jointly shared by Prajukta Roy of Seven Set Higher Secondary School, Shillong and Prinita Das of Pechon A Sangma Memorial Police Public Secondary School, Tura, both scoring 575 marks.
A total of 48,623 students from 719 institutions appeared for the SSLC Examination across 171 centres this year, out of which 42,228 students successfully passed.
Among them, 9,104 students passed in five subjects, while 33,124 students cleared all six subjects.
The overall pass percentage stands at 86.84%, slightly lower than last year’s 87.10%.
District-wise, West Jaintia Hills recorded the highest pass percentage at 94.99%, while East Garo Hills reported the lowest at 72.33%.
Other district pass percentages include East Khasi Hills (94.17%), South West Khasi Hills (94.60%), West Khasi Hills (92.95%), East Jaintia Hills (92.85%), Eastern West Khasi Hills (93.31%), Ri Bhoi (88.04%), South Garo Hills (88.48%), West Garo Hills (77.75%), South West Garo Hills (74.54%), and North Garo Hills (72.70%).
This year’s results highlight steady academic performance and the growing competitiveness among students across Meghalaya.
