SHILLONG: In a proud moment for Meghalaya, the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association has announced that a young mountaineer from Shillong has achieved remarkable success at a prestigious national training institute.
Mr. B. Kyrmenskhem Lyngdoh, a resident of Upper Lumparing and a student of Shillong College, successfully completed the Basic Mountaineering Course (Sl. No. 374) conducted at the renowned Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling.
The intensive training programme was held from April 1 to April 28, 2025, and Lyngdoh participated under sponsorship from the Assam Rifles through its Directorate General office in Laitkor.
🧗♂️ Outstanding Performance
During the course, Lyngdoh delivered an exceptional performance by securing 1st position in the Sport Climbing Competition, highlighting his strength, technique, and competitive edge among trainees from across the country.
Adding to his achievement, he also successfully summited Mount Renok (5,025 metres) as part of the high-altitude training module, showcasing his endurance and determination in challenging mountain conditions.

Route navigation

The Graduation Ceremony held on April 28, 2026, marked a significant milestone for all participants, celebrating weeks of disciplined training and personal growth in the mountains.
The ceremony was addressed by Captain Neeraj Kumar, who encouraged the graduates to continue their journey in mountaineering with determination, humility, and deep respect for nature.
