SHILLONG : In a strong push to improve the implementation of rural water supply projects, Meghalaya PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak has directed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to hold monthly District Water and Sanitation Committee (DWSC) meetings and ensure that meeting minutes are uploaded on the Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) for effective monitoring of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Speaking after a high-level review meeting with DCs, Marak emphasized that the Government of India has made it mandatory to generate unique IDs for all infrastructure created under the scheme.
He informed that 1,931 IDs have already been generated covering 6,772 habitations for out-village infrastructure, while 51 IDs are still pending. For in-village infrastructure, 1,570 IDs have been completed covering 2,500 habitations, with only 89 IDs still at the draft stage.
The Minister stressed that DCs, who serve as chairpersons of the DWSCs, will play a crucial role in ensuring ground-level monitoring and accountability.
He stated that the monthly meetings are mandatory, as progress reports uploaded on IMIS will allow the central government to track performance and follow up on pending issues.
To address technical challenges, the government has also set up district technical units, which will identify issues on the ground and report them to DCs, who will then coordinate with the state government for solutions.
