SHILLONG: Big teams like Shillong Lajong FC, Nangkiew Irat SC and Khimusniang SC continued their dominant run with emphatic victories in the 5th Meghalaya State League 2025, even as rain and surprise results added drama across multiple groups.
Heavy rainfall across Meghalaya made playing conditions extremely challenging for footballers. In Mairang, the Group F match between Lawbah SC and Mishon SSCC had to be postponed due to poor ground conditions and will be rescheduled.
In Group H, Rangdajied United FC were held to a goalless draw by Mawlarshong SC in Mawkyrwat. The two sides had earlier played out a 1-1 draw, meaning Mawlarshong remain unbeaten against the 2023 champions in both encounters.
Another upset unfolded in Williamnagar where Janepih YSCA were held 0-0 by Balmanduri FC. Janepih had previously won all three of their matches, making this result a surprising setback in their campaign.
In Group D at Khliehriat, Thangskai Tiger SC staged a strong comeback to defeat Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung SC 2-1. After a goalless first half, Thomas Dkhar gave Jalaphet the lead in the 53rd minute, but goals from Wendi Markson Nongtdu (72′) and Solmon Sympli (87′) sealed victory for the Tigers.
Group C saw Amlarem SC secure a convincing 3-1 win over Lamin XI SCC. Iaid Da Kyrmen Jungai opened scoring early, while Marshial Nongrum added two more goals. Densil Kongwang managed a late consolation for Lamin XI.
Former champions Shillong Lajong FC delivered a commanding 5-0 win against Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC in Group E at Wahiajer. Lalmuansanga scored the opener before second-half goals from Colinsalmon Lyngdoh, Iohborlang L Lyngkhoi, Ricky Kharkongor and captain Wilbert D Marbaniang completed the rout.
At the MFA Ground in Shillong, Nangkiew Irat SC also registered a 5-0 victory over Mawlum Tyrsad SCC in Group B. After an early goal by Neblejohn Lyngkhoi, Banshanlang Nongdhar doubled the lead before substitute Wallamsuk Nongkhlaw stole the show with a brilliant late hat-trick.
The biggest win of the day came in Group A where Khimusniang SC thrashed Umkaber SCC 9-0 at the SSA Stadium. Primrose Lamat scored twice to take his tally to nine goals in the tournament, while Meroily Lytan also netted a brace. Dashngain Sukhlain, Dawanbiangmi Passah and Civility Khongmalai added to the scoreline, along with an own goal.
