Shillong : National People’s Party (NPP) leader and Cabinet Minister Wailadmiki Shylla on Tuesday dismissed speculation of any internal conflict within the party over the selection of its Rajya Sabha candidate, asserting that the final decision will be taken by the party high command.
Speaking to reporters, Shylla said that differing opinions among party members should not be interpreted as signs of discord.
“Definitely, I will have my own opinion, and others will also have their own people whom they want to project. That does not mean there is a conflict. It is everyone’s right to support and project the person they consider suitable,” he said.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions and media reports suggesting that multiple names are being considered by the party for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election.
Emphasising the unity within the ruling party, Shylla said the NPP remains a closely-knit organisation despite varying individual preferences.
“As a party, just like the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers and others have said, NPP is one big happy family. Whatever our leaders decide, we respect their decision,” he stated.
When asked about the number of aspirants being considered, Shylla acknowledged that several names had surfaced.
“Three to four names were there. Even the media has reported about them. But ultimately, as I said, it is the decision of the party high command,” he added.
The statement is expected to ease speculation surrounding the party’s choice for the Rajya Sabha seat and reinforces the leadership’s message of unity ahead of the selection process.
