SHILLONG : Wangaal Lama of Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School, Shillong, who secured the top position in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination 2026 with 585 marks, has shared an inspiring message of self-belief and dedication.
Expressing his joy, Lama said the moment felt unreal. “When I got it, it just feels like a dream. I was so nervous, I didn’t even check my results,” he said.
Speaking to the media, he credited his success to consistent hard work and confidence in himself. “You should never think that you are less than anyone. The most important thing is to believe in yourself because if you don’t, then who else will?” he added.
Sharing advice for fellow students, Lama encouraged them to work hard and focus on personal growth. “You have to own your skills and improve. Don’t be just a bookworm—you should have a complete life experience,” he said.
On his future plans, Lama said he is yet to decide his path but remains hopeful. “God will help me find my purpose in life. Don’t think of me as a topper—I just studied. I know thousands expected this, but I was fortunate to achieve it,” he said.
He further emphasized the importance of responsibility and sincerity. “Whatever you do, fulfil your responsibilities. Do it wholeheartedly because it is your duty and your passion,” Lama stated.
Despite topping the exam, Lama said he has no regrets. “The results didn’t matter to me because whatever I did, I did with my whole heart,” he added.
